Her Windows Opportunity
Many Delta Alumni have dedicated their time and talents to restore Delta Chapter to the University of Michigan Campus. We have battled roof leaks, mold abatement, and negative cash flow over these years. Through all of this, we have maintained our Shelter as one of the nicest fraternities on campus. We now face a new challenge that requires immediate action.
The roof and windows are still original to the 1924 construction and they need replacement. Their 85 year old wood and building materials are substantially rotted and deteriorated. Each year, we are facing financial losses due to significant roof problems and high energy bills. In 2008, the deteriorated windows were cited by the Ann Arbor Housing Department and we must undertake significant repairs or replacement within a year in order to keep our Shelter open. With 316 windows in the Shelter and the restoration of a slate roof, replacement costs are expected to total over $350,000.
To address this challenge, we need your help! A fundraising committee has been formed and we are proud to announce the "Her Windows Understanding" Fundraising Campaign.
Leading the program are Allan Lutes '86, Dana Baldwin '64, Garrett Hall '85 and Chris Tzetzo '89. They have proposed a three year campaign beginning in Fall, 2009. Between this fall and the following August, we request that our Delta brothers pledge an amount towards our need. Alumni can then pay their pledge immediately, or in three installments in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Stock, life insurance and other asset donatins will be gladly accepted.
The committee has set a three tier goal for the fundraising effort with a cumulative target of $1 million in donationis. Accomplishing one or more of the phases of this ambitious plan will be considered a success. The first phase is directed at solving our roof and window problem with a target goal of $350,000. The second phase is to restore the Shelter to financial stability by paying down the $330,000 of mortgage debt. The third phase is to prepare the fraternity for long term success by establishing an endowment and scholarship fund with a goal of $380,000.
A group from the 1980's has really stepped forward to support this program. At last year's Delt Golf Outing, more than twenty brothers made pledges. Leading the way with a $50,000 pledge was Wendell Brooks '87. Bill Kishler '88 and John Princing '86 also made significant pledges. In totaly the 1980's era pledged more than $130,000 within 20 minutes of hearing our fraternity's need. We hope that other eras of brothers will follow the example set by this dedicated group.
If you would like to step up and help build momentum for this effort by participating in the fundraising committee, or by making an initial pledge prior to the official campaign launch, please contact Garrett Hall (ghall@ford.com) or Dana Baldwin (mdbaldwin11@yahoo.com).
Please consider the impact that Delta Chapter has had on your life and on the brothers that you have come to know, and please assist us in perserving this opportunity for the men that will carry on this legacy in the future.
