Current Interests
I ski, play tennis, golf, hike, kayak, and read.
With Whom Do You Keep In Touch?
Now that I live on the west coast, I am a long way from most alumni. However, I have had contact with Tom Berglund '56 and Dick Stringer '56. Charlie Wood '56 was the best man at my wedding.
Favorite Delt Memory
I bought the 1947 Frazer automobile that had been sitting behind the fraternity for several years. One of the alumni, Jack Shaupp '55, owned the car and left it there when he joined the U.S. Navy. He came back from leave and I bought the car from him for $7.50. Some of the brothers helped me fix the battery and pump up the tires. I used the car to go back and forth to Ypsilanti for dates.
I sang in the Delt Chorus. We had a chorus director and competed in an interfraternity singing contest. I was not a good singer, but the good ones would drown me out, so it worked.
I was part of the "Dirty Thirty," the largest pledge class in the fraternity's history. In those days, we were subject to some pretty brutal hazing and it bonded us as a group. I spent four years with those guys and it helped my development process. I learned how to be a member of a team and share common goals with bright young men who had strong ambitions. It was a great experience.
