Alumni Profile

Mark Wayne '85

Mark Wayne '85, founder of one of the nation's largest full-service 401(k) plan providers.

Work Status

I am CEO/President of Freedom One Financial Group.  My first job was at my father's company, Durakon Industries, which manufactures and distributes truck bed liners.  I held different management positions and did well, but wanted to make it on my own.  I left my father's company and worked at a health insurance third-party administrator for less than a year before I founded Freedom One Financial Group in 1988.  Today, it is one of the nation's largest full-service 401(k) plan providers.

Current Interests

I am a member of many professional and industry-related organizations.  My wife, Kerri, and I have three children: Karley, 13; Michael, 11; and Mia Grace, 3.  Karley's passion for horses takes us to shows often.  Michael--with a 70mph fastball--pitches for a travelling baseball team.  I also enjoy my muscle car collection: a '68 GT 500 Shelby, a '69 RS/SS 396 Camaro, a '66 Cobra, and a 2006 Z06 Corvette.

With Whom Do You Keep In Touch?

I keep in touch with members of the board: Garrett Hall '85, Allan Lutes '86, Paul Mack '86, et al.  I've been serving in different roles on the board of directors for twenty-two years.

Favorite Delt Memory

My Favorite Delt memory includes our first big party in the shelter.  There were more people on the first floor than I thought could ever fit (and probably against fire code).  It reminded me of the toga party scene in "Animal House", except we were not in togas.  It was great fun and made a lasting impression on me!  Also, because I spent most of my time in the house as house manager, there were lots of examples of putting the house back together with brothers.  Those were fun and rewarding times.
